We got surprisingly
high quality on our masters by directly recording from LD to digial video tape with no inbetween copies made anywhere.
The subtitles were
overlaid on the video by using a 486 and a GVP VGA+ genlock card on a PC. The card output very dark outlines
and clear subtitles.
The subtilting program
we used was Zero G.
Today...
Many subtitler are
using Virtual Dub, Tsunami, and SSA. All the work is being done
non-linear on computers.
I have to say that
I've been impressed with those that are putting in some extra
effort into their work, especially the ones that put detail into
matching title fonts to those of the originals, and animated
titles!!! Subbing programs have finally caught up with the vision
of creative subtitlers! It's just LOVELY guys!!!!
I wanted to be able
to do that so badly, but it wasn't possible then! I asked subbing
code writers to add those abilities, and tried even to hire someone
to write it for me. Just never worked out...I guess every thing
has to take it's course. Anyhow, I am impressed with how you've
run with it!
