Hi! My name is LaLainya and I am a huge animal lover. I have been
around animals my whole life. My current pet family includes
2 dogs, 5 cats, 2 horses, 8 guinea pigs, 1 hedgehog, 7 box
turtles, 1 hermit crab, 1 75- gallon mbuna tank and a 12 gallon
community tank… a 13 year old son and a husband of 15
years!
My mom worked as a vet tech and I remember many afternoons spent
helping out by feeding and watering overnight stays and walking
many of the dogs. This was at the age of 5 (probably wouldn't
happen in this day and age, but things were different back then.)
By age 6 I was bathing cats and pilling dogs. At 11 I was assisting
with injections. My first paying clients were when I was 12.
I had two dog-walking jobs and I walked the dogs every afternoon,
5 days a week. I also had a client with a black lab and a 1/2
Rhodesian Ridgeback that I pet-sat for on a regular basis. I
even spent a summer volunteering/working at Kendalwood Morgan
Showhorse Farm in Glenpool, Oklahoma. I fed and watered and groomed
and cooled down the horses everyday. (I wasn't getting paid so
I didn't muck the stalls!).
I graduated from pet-grooming school in the summer of 1991.
I have done volunteer work with the SPCA. I have done work with
rescue animals including Greyhounds (where I received instruction
on the T-Touch Massage Method), wolfdogs, goats, hedgehogs, cats,
turtles, rats, ferrets and guinea pigs.
I have bred and shown guinea pigs, hedgehogs, rabbits, and dogs
over the last 25 years. I have not bred any dogs in over a decade,
though that may change with the addition of a show quality Finnish
Spitz to the family. We are currently raising and showing cavies
(guinea pigs) as a 4-H project, and for fun.
Over the years, my love for all critters has never waned. I
have preformed various in-home pet services regularly since 1981.
Pet-Sitting, Photography, Grooming, Training, Dog Walking, Pet
Taxi... you name it I have probably done it. It was sporadic
and very informal for the first 15 years or so.
I am a home-schooling
mom. While I had previously considered taking all my pet-related
experience and turning it into a
career offering pet sitting to the general public, I decided
against
it. This was because I was not willing to give up my holidays
with my family, and I knew as a pet sitter holidays would
be busy times. We used to travel between 3 or 4 homes between
Wimberly and Houston for the holidays. Now we generally stay
in town and
my son is old enough that I don’t feel like I am missing
out if I leave to care for people’s pets on the holidays.
So Coddled
Critters was
born. Since I began accepting strangers as clients, I
have joined Pet Sitters International (PSI), National
Association of Professional Pet Sitters (NAPPS) and Houston
Area
Professional Pet Sitters Association (HAPPSA) in order
to network with other pet care professionals. I have
also purchased both
insurance and bond coverage for myself and my mother, Chery,
and a lifelong friend, Angela, who work with me. I am very excited to be able to offer dedicated and professional
pet care services to my community. I look forward to serving
the needs of you and your pets!!
